Why Every Small Business Needs a Photographer (And What I Bring to the Table!)

Let’s talk about why investing in professional photography can be a game-changer for your small business. If you’re a small business owner, chances are you’re juggling about a million things at once. From stocktaking to social media, there’s barely time to breathe, let alone worry about capturing the perfect shot of your latest product or documenting that fabulous event you’ve worked so hard to organise. That’s where I come in.

Branding: First Impressions Matter

Your brand is your business’s personality, and it’s how customers connect with you. A scroll through Instagram or a quick glance at your website should instantly tell people who you are and what you’re about. Professional photography makes all the difference here.

Whether it’s a sleek flat lay of your products or a fun, candid shot of your team in action, I specialise in bringing your brand’s unique vibe to life. Forget grainy, poorly lit snaps on your phone—I’ll make sure your visuals look polished, professional, and on point.

Product Photography: Show Them What You’ve Got

Great product shots are non-negotiable if you want to stand out online. I recently worked with Sumo Donuts to shoot their UberEats catalogue, and let me tell you, I had a blast. Each doughnut was a masterpiece (and not just because I got to taste-test a few!).

The challenge was to make their treats look as mouth-wateringly irresistible on screen as they do in real life. Lighting, angles, and props—everything had to be just right to show off the glazes, sprinkles, and fillings. The result? A vibrant gallery of images that not only showcased their products but also boosted their online presence. And yes, those photos absolutely drove more orders. That’s the power of professional product photography.

Events: Capture the Magic

Small business milestones deserve to be celebrated, and what better way to remember the occasion than with professional event photography? Take The Refillery’s first birthday celebration, for example. It was an amazing day—with the mayor and mayoress of Canterbury cutting the cake (eco-friendly, of course!) and a buzzing crowd soaking up the festivities.

My job was to capture the essence of the event—the smiles, the peeches, and those little moments that made it special. It’s not just about snapping photos; it’s about telling the story of your business and the people who make it what it is.

Why I Love Working with Small Businesses

There’s something magical about working with small businesses. You’re not just a number in a spreadsheet; you’re someone’s dream in action. I love meeting passionate business owners and learning about their journeys. Every shoot is different, and I get to bring my creativity to the table to help you shine.

Small businesses also have heart. You’re connected to your customers and your community in a way big corporations just can’t replicate. My job is to help you share that heart with the world through stunning visuals that make people stop scrolling and start engaging.
